5 Things to Consider the Second Week of the New Year

As we begin the New Year, it’s easy to get consumed with the goals and resolutions that we’ve set out to achieve. However, let’s not forget to do the things that support our mental well-being, which lay the foundation for maintaining resolutions and reaching long-term goals.

  1. Acceptance. What is. Right now.

    Even if it’s not exactly how you planned or how you thought it would be. When we embrace our current situation, it allows peace and gratitude to flow through us. Thereby, permitting us to get “unstuck” and flow forward towards who (and where) we’re meant to be.

  2. Exhale. Let your emotions breathe!

    Do not force yourself to be over something that actually still hurts you. Burying your emotions is like keeping a Band-Aid on a wound without letting it get the oxygen that’s necessary for the healing process. We allow our emotions to heal when we let them breathe by doing things such as talking it out, journaling, praying, crying, yelling/screaming, exercising, singing, dancing, and creating art.

  3. The Why. Remember, the ultimate goal isn’t happiness, it’s peace.

    When tend to make plans and do things that we believe will make us happy (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that). However, when the stride towards any particular goal takes away your peace, it’s time to do some inner reflection on why you want to achieve this particular goal in the first place, and if our current method of achieving the goal is serving you.

  4. Health. Take care of your body.

    Simply because your ability to live your life out to its fullest is highly dependent on the physical vessel that carries your soul.

  5. Education. Start reading books.

    Reading a good book is a form of meditation and therapy. But read what genuinely sparks your interest and that you actually enjoy reading, or else it will feel like a chore.
